Some of Juan Reynoso's decisions as coach of the Peruvian national team have been questioned during his time in charge. One of them is why he has not considered foreign players who hold Peruvian nationality, such as Horacio Calcaterra, Franco Zanelatto, and Gabriel Costa, in his list of call-ups.
For that reason, experienced sports journalist Elejalder Godos decided to explain why the coach of the national team has overlooked these players. This happened during an episode of the program Minuto Caliente, where the possibility of Zanelatto being called up was discussed. Zanelatto currently has a good performance at Alianza Lima.
"That format is not liked by 'JR' (Juan Reynoso), having naturalized players in the national team. Players who have a Peruvian link, yes, that's different," said Elejalder Godos, the experienced sports commentator.
Why does Reynoso call up Lapadula then?
As Elejalder assures, Juan Máxima Reynoso may not like the idea of calling up naturalized players, but he does call up players who have Peruvian ancestry through family relationships. This is the case of Gianluca Lapadula and now also Oliver Sonne, who have Peruvian blood from their mother and grandmother, respectively.
When will Juan Reynoso's next call-up be announced?
It is estimated that the next list of call-ups by Juan Reynoso will be announced on September 29th or October 2nd, in preparation for the 3rd and 4th rounds of the South American Qualifiers.
