The championship is more interesting than ever, to the point that it is only talked about on social networks like WhatsApp. Only three points separate the four teams fighting to win the Clausura Tournament (Sporting Cristal, Universitario de Deportes, Melgar, and Alianza Lima). With a very even remaining fixture, it is not crazy to think that there could even be a triple tie in the last round of the second tournament of the season, creating doubt about how the championship would be defined if this happens.
In that sense, according to the rules that were announced before the start of the current edition of the Liga 1 Betsson, the tiebreaker reason (in case of a tie in points of one or more teams), would be taken into account in the following order:
- Goal difference: priority will be given to the team whose result of the subtraction of their goals scored minus the conceded goals is higher than that of their opponents.
- Goals scored: priority will be given to the team that has scored the most number of goals, in case point 1 keeps the tie.
- Fair Play: in a points system, the team that has practiced Fair Play throughout the season will be determined. It is worth noting that each yellow card will deduct one point from the club; the red card (for double booking) deducts three points; the straight red card deducts four points; and the straight red card - after a booking - deducts five points.
- Draw: if the tie persists after the first three tiebreakers, a draw will be conducted among the remaining teams in the definition.
A million reasons to become champions in the Liga 1
On the other hand, the CONMEBOL announced the decision to award one million dollars to the champion team of the local leagues of the ten countries they integrate, with the Liga 1 Betsson being one of those included for this important prize, for which Alianza Lima, Universitario de Deportes, Sporting Cristal, and Melgar will fight in the coming weeks.
"With the objective of promoting sporting excellence and competitiveness, the Confederation in conjunction with the Member Associations decided to award USD 1,000,000 to award the champions of the local tournaments in each country," the entity stated.
With that, the candidates would not only fight for the glory of adding one more star to their record, but also for receiving important financial support for the 2024 season, in which - it is almost certain - they will participate in international tournaments.
