Minute 25 of the second half of the match between Universitario de Deportes and Sporting Cristal, for matchday 13 of the Clausura Tournament of the Liga 1 Betsson. Jorge Fossati finds it convenient to make a change to reinforce the team's offensive zone, having to take Piero Quispe out of the field, a decision that was not well received by the national midfielder, who showed his dissatisfaction with a gesture. Two days after the match, it was the coach himself who spoke about the player's reaction and the reasons for it.
"In the locker room, Piero (Quispe) approached me to apologize, as he was angry with himself because he couldn't get rid of the cramp he had and continue. That's why he was angry. I told him it was fine if he didn't want to come out, but one has to take care of the team," the coach said to the media.
Jorge Fossati also detailed the factor that pushed him to replace Piero Quispe in the last game of Universitario de Deportes (Horacio Calcaterra replaced him), which was related to his presence in the double fixture of the World Cup Qualifiers, despite the midfielder not having any official playing time.
"He was almost 15 days with the Peruvian National Team and, generally, the intensity of training is not the same as at the club. The training sessions are intended for something else, for two matches in four days. Although he didn't play a minute, I'm sure he experienced the matches with the same intensity as those who played. He may not have had physical fatigue, but he had emotional fatigue," he added.
Universitario's Schedule
Universitario de Deportes reached 26 points in the Clausura Tournament after their goalless draw against Sporting Cristal at the National Stadium, but they are in second position due to having a lower goal difference than the celestials, and also having played one more match than the rimense team.
Regarding the schedule that Jorge Fossati's team will have to follow in the search for the title of the second tournament of the season, they know they have no margin for error in Ate. Their upcoming matches are: Sport Boys (H), Cesar Vallejo (A), UTC (H), Cusco FC (A), and Sport Huancayo (H).
