Martín Ligüera

The former midfielder, Martín Ligüera, has been one of the many Uruguayan players who has played for national soccer teams. He even had the opportunity to coincide with Luis Suárez at Nacional for a few seasons, where they formed a friendship that continues to this day. But in Peru, he is still remembered by the Blanquiazules fans for winning the national title with Alianza Lima in 2006.

After being part of the 'albos', he signed with San Luis in Mexico for three years. Despite that, it was coach Gerardo Pelusso who sought him to join Alianza Lima. "Obviously, I didn't think twice because I know the impact it has, the level of the team in South America, and I went on loan for a year," he said to Infobae.

Already wearing the intimate outfit, at the age of 25 he shared the field with great references in the history of the club, such as Guillermo ‘Chicho’ Salas, ‘Pepe’ Soto, Juan Jayo, Marko Ciurlizza, Zegarra, Rodrigo Pérez, Maestri, among others. "There was maturity and I felt like a leader on the field because there were many leaders off the field. We knew that the only thing that mattered was winning the championship because many wouldn't have many opportunities afterwards," he commented to the aforementioned media.

Ligüera has a place in the hearts of Alianza Lima fans

Although his departure from the institution was beyond his reach, Ligüera always assured that he lived each match with the same intensity as always. "I consider myself a '10', but I always gave my all like every Uruguayan. So they valued that a lot, they grew to love me. In the Copa Libertadores, things didn't go well for us, but I always gave it my all until the end, I wore the shirt with dignity. I had the opportunity to receive all that recognition because I left halfway through the year (2007), Alianza was having financial problems and I couldn't renew, so I returned to Nacional," he said.

What is Martín Ligüera currently doing?

Despite always making it clear that he wants to work as the head coach of the 'Decanos' first team, he is currently the coach of Nacional's youth teams, and competing in the Intermedio Tournament.
