Alianza Lima celebrates the good moment of its talents. They won against Universitario de Deportes in the Copa Mitad del Mundo that took place in Ecuador. The blanquiazules are having a great tournament.
The tournament that is taking place in Ecuador has the participation of clubs from all over America, such as Fluminense, Atlético Nacional, Peñarol, Olimpia, Independiente del Valle, among others. While from Peru, Alianza Lima, Universitario de Deportes, and Sporting Cristal participated, none of the three teams were able to advance to the next stage of the international competition.
Nevertheless, in the play offs to define the final position of each club, Alianza Lima defeated Universitario 4-2 with goals from Víctor Guzmán, Piero Cari, and Adriano Neciosup. Thus, in the overall table of all participating teams, the team from La Victoria was the highest-ranked Peruvian team, followed by Universitario and Sporting Cristal in the last position.
Vale to point out that in the Copa Mitad del Mundo, the youth divisions of each institution participate, in this case the U-18, so it serves to assess how the future 'gems' of the respective teams are doing. On the other hand, those from Matute fought until the end in the tournament, as they lost against Peñarol and Atlético Huila, but defeated Santos Laguna and Universitario.
How did Universitario and Sporting Cristal do?
Unfortunately for our country, Universitario left without knowing victory after losing to Fluminense and drawing with City Torque and Independiente del Valle in the group stage, and losing to Alianza Lima in the play offs. Finally, Sporting Cristal had a tougher time as they lost to Atlético Nacional and the Ecuador U-17 team, and drew with Red Bull Bragantino in the first stage, while in their last match they lost 4-2 on penalties against Talleres.
