The Guatemalan defender started, but had to leave the field due to a double booking
ROMANIA -- Guatemalan defender Nicolás Samayoa started in his debut with CSM Politehnica Iași, in a match corresponding to the fourth round of the Romanian Liga 1.
It hasn't been the best start for the Guatemalan international, as his team lost 1-0 to FC UTA Arad at Francisc von Neumann Stadium in the city of Arad. Additionally, Samayoa was sent off in the 90+8th minute due to a double booking.
Andrej Fabry scored the only goal of the match in the 8th minute, after receiving a ground pass from the right wing and taking a well-placed shot that left the goalkeeper with no chance. In that action, Samayoa was chasing the forward when he slipped, tried to recover and intercept the shot, but he didn't have enough time to reach it.
The match was highly contentious, with 8 yellow cards shown, plus the two that ultimately led to the expulsion of the Guatemalan defender. Samayoa received a yellow card in the 68th minute and a red card in the 90+8th minute. The Guatemalan had scored the equalizer goal in the 79th minute, but the referee disallowed it for an alleged offside position.
CSM Politehnica Iași remained in 11th position with 3 points, resulting from one win and three losses. In the next round, they will face U Craiova 1948 Club Sportiv on Saturday. Samayoa will not be able to play in that match due to his expulsion.
