Alianza Lima took a few days to review resumes of coaches and, after an exhaustive analysis, announced Mauricio Larriera as their new head coach for the rest of the season.

The Uruguayan strategist will take the reins of the blanquiazul team with the objective of achieving the national three-peat by the end of the year, and if there are no setbacks, continue his work until 2025.

Hours after being confirmed in the position, Larriera used his Twitter account to leave an emotional message highlighting his return to the institution, but this time as the head coach of the first team. He wrote, "16 years later, we return to La Victoria".

One of the reasons why the Uruguayan coach was chosen to take on the challenge is because he already knows what the Alianza world is like. Larriera first arrived at the club in 2006 as an assistant coach to Gerardo Pelusso, with whom he won the national championship that same year and stayed until mid-2007.

Mauricio Larriera has a defined style of play, where he usually uses a formation with four defenders, five midfielders, and one forward. However, this is not set in stone as he adapts his lineups according to the characteristics of his squad. What is non-negotiable is the use of lateral passes.

"One of the aspects that I adhere to rigorously is the lateral pass, the horizontal pass as I call it. We always have to generate a diagonal pass, whether backwards or forwards, because if there's a horizontal pass and the ball is lost, the opponent ends up in the kitchen. There's no specific situation that comes to mind that has led me to reconsider my approach, but if I have to do it, I do it. I'm not radical in anything," he declared in a recent interview with ESPN.
