There is no doubt that July is one of the most anticipated months of the year in Peru because it has many important dates like the holidays for the Independence Day and for private sector workers, the long-awaited bonus, which consists of the payment of an extra salary without deductions and as a benefit for all formal workers in this sector. In this article, you will be able to learn all the details about who receives it and when is the deadline for companies to deposit the money.

When is the 2023 bonus paid?

The bonus is an economic benefit that employers are required to deposit on Independence Day and Christmas holidays, that is, twice a year. The Bonus Law also states that this benefit for workers must be paid, at most, until July 15. This means that private sector workers will receive their bonuses until Saturday, July 15, as not doing so could bring a heavy penalty to employers. The Christmas bonus must be paid by December 15, 2023.

How to receive an extraordinary bonus of 9%?

Workers on the payroll and within the private regime will receive their full salary as a bonus, and additionally, EsSalud affiliates will receive an extraordinary bonus of 9%, according to the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL). While workers affiliated with a Health Service Provider (EPS), the extraordinary bonus will be 6.76%.

“According to Law No. 27735, a regulation that governs the granting of bonuses and provided that the worker has worked the entire semester (January - June 2023). The deadline for the payment of this benefit expires on July 15, and it must be included in the electronic payroll,” said Álvaro Gálvez, manager of the CCL Legal Center.

Not only that, the CCL stated that if workers have worked for some months in that semester, the bonus will be equivalent to a sixth of their salary for each month worked. However, if a worker has unjustified absences in a month, a thirtieth of the sixth to be received will be deducted for each absence.

Beneficiaries of the 2023 bonus

According to Law No. 27735, it is stated that the following people have the right to receive bonuses:

  • All workers subject to the private sector regime.
  • In the case of workers from small businesses, they are entitled to half of the bonus (in July and December).
  • Those workers who work under the agricultural regime.
  • Workers in public entities under the private sector labor regime.
