Agua Marina is one of the most recognized national and international orchestras with almost 47 years of trajectory. The group has managed to position itself as a favorite among cumbia fans, thanks to its hits such as "Paloma ajena" and "Pasitos para bailar," among others.
Quiroga Querevalú had to go through many adversities to become what they are now, a cumbia orchestra that represents Sechura, Piura, to the world. But how did the group start? We'll tell you that and more.
How and where did the Agua Marina group start?
The Quiroga Querevalú brothers are the founders, and from a very young age, they showed an inclination for music. However, it all started during the 70s, when José decided to leave his studies at Senati in Chiclayo to pursue his dreams.
The young musician studied machinery electricity for 8 months. However, his passion for music was stronger, and he made the radical decision to leave everything behind to form a great orchestra with his brother.
At first, their father did not agree with the idea, and thanks to their mother, who managed to convince him to accompany their children in this dream, they started the adventure. To do this, they had to sell everything they had. Don Teófilo sold the boat he worked with, and his wife sold all her jewelry in order to buy instruments and amplifiers. That was how Agua Marina was born in 1976, the group better known as "The richest water in Peru."
Their first success was "Tu amor fue una mentira" in 1998, a song that became a hit and started playing on Lima's radios, as before releasing the song, their music was only broadcast on local stations.
