Why is 'Friendship Day' celebrated in Peru?

This celebration comes from a successful and famous advertising campaign started by the beer brand Pilsen Callao that intensified the meaning of the word friendship. In 2010, the company established a date to invite friends to gather to consume the alcoholic beverage it produces.

So much was the acceptance of this ingenious idea by its regular customers that it became the traditional 'Thursday of Pata' ('Pata' being a slang term for friend); however, it was established that every first Saturday of July the 'Friend Day' is celebrated.

Is Friendship Day celebrated worldwide on July 1st as well?

No, the mentioned date is only decreed in our country. However, there is an official date worldwide which is July 30th, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2011.
