This frustration of not having secured a spot in Qatar 2022 went even further. According to sports journalist Pedro García, two national team players got into a fistfight in the dressing rooms after being eliminated from the playoffs.
"The team is like a family, and families have their internal problems. On the day we were eliminated from the World Cup, two members of the family got into a fistfight," revealed García to Movistar Deportes.
"I won't say who they were, some already know, but on the day we were eliminated from the World Cup, two very talented Peruvian players got into a fistfight. It happens in families, right? The key is to overcome these situations," added the aforementioned reporter.
Pedro García also referred to Paolo Guerrero's recent statements, in which he talked about the reality of Peruvian players in the domestic league: "And if they were able to overcome a couple of punches within the national team, then this statement shouldn't bring any consequences," he stated.
What did Paolo Guerrero say about the reality of Peruvian footballers?
"You talk about my age, but I'm still playing in a competitive football league. There are many players who don't play in a competitive league, like the Peruvian league and others, but I keep playing at 39 years old," said Paolo Guerrero to 'Fútbol en América'.
