Alianza Lima eliminated from Copa Libertadores
Alianza Lima was eliminated from the 2023 Copa Libertadores after losing by the minimum difference to Atlético Mineiro in a match with controversial refereeing and VAR decisions in two key plays, one of them being Hulk's goal in the second half.

Let's review that in the action before Hulk's goal, the ball touched the arm of defender Bruno Fuchs inside his own area, so everyone from Alianza demanded the penalty kick.
However, referee Facundo Tello, supported by VAR, decided that the play did not merit a penalty, after concluding that the arm was not in an unnatural position and because the ball reached him from a rebound.
On the other hand, a penalty that was awarded to Alianza and was going to be taken by Hernán Barcos, was invalidated after the video assistant referee detected a millimetric offside by the 'Pirate' in the previous moment.

With this final defeat, Alianza is left without chances of qualifying for the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores, although they still have possibilities of migrating to the Sudamericana, although first they must overcome Athletico Paranaense in Brazil in matchday 6 of the group stage.
