Sporting Cristal vs. Cienciano: A Victory for the Celestes in the Apertura Tournament 2023

In the 18th round of the Apertura Tournament 2023, Sporting Cristal added another victory that allows them to continue accumulating points for the overall table that will start to apply from the beginning of the Clausura. The Celestes defeated Cienciano del Cusco 4-2 at the Estadio Nacional.

Brenner Marlos, Alejandro Hohberg (2), and Martín Távara were the authors of the goals for the rimense team, while Koichi Aparicio and Alberto Quintero scored for the Cusco team.

At the end of the match, one of the key figures of Sporting Cristal, Hohberg, spoke to the press in the mixed zone and explained the reasons behind the great moment that the team led by Tiago Nunes is going through, accumulating 5 consecutive victories in the Liga 1.

"(Because) we got out of that negative streak we had entered, it was costing us to get out. We started winning, that gave us more confidence, we started playing a little better and that is good for us," said 'Chato' to the media.

"We still have a lot to improve, today we conceded two goals. We would have liked to keep a clean sheet. We have to keep improving and we have positive things to keep doing. We still have one more match to close the Apertura," he added.

The Celestes are now preparing to face The Strongest in Bolivia on Wednesday, June 7th, for the 5th round of the Copa Libertadores. Sporting Cristal has to earn three points if they want to keep dreaming of qualifying for the round of 16.
