Seventh edition is coming, with Alianza Lima as one of its participants! In Chile, from July 1 to 16, the Copa Libertadores Sub 20 will be disputed, a tournament in which 12 clubs representing the 10 associations that are part of Conmebol will participate. Peru will have the blanquiazul team, champion of the 2022 Promotion and Reserves Tournament. And in the midst of all this scenario, the ones from La Victoria already know their opponents in the group stage.

This Thursday morning, the Competition and Operations Directorate of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) held the draw for the group stage and the twelve teams that will be part of the competition, including Alianza Lima, were distributed in three zones.

The victorians are located in Group A of the Copa Libertadores Sub 20, where they will face Peñarol (Uruguay), the last champion of the tournament, Caracas (Venezuela), and the O'Higgins club (Chile). Meanwhile, Group B is made up of Independiente del Valle (Ecuador), Cerro Porteño (Paraguay), Envigado (Colombia), and Always Ready (Bolivia).

Meanwhile, Group C is made up of Defensor Sporting (Uruguay), Boca Juniors (Argentina), Palmeiras (Brazil), and Huachipato (Chile). It is important to mention that both Uruguay and Chile are the only countries with two participating teams. The reason? The team 'Carbonero' (Peñarol) is the current title holder and the southern teams, on the other hand, are the hosts.

They return after 11 years

The last participation of Alianza Lima in the Copa Libertadores Sub 20 was in 2012. On that occasion, the blanquiazul team surpassed the group stage, but in the round of 16 they were eliminated by Unión Española from Chile on penalty kicks, and the team had players like Wilder Cartagena, Sergio Peña, Rodrigo Cuba, Jhonny Vidales, Koichi Aparicio, Gino Guerrero, and Junior Ponce.
