Triumph and revenge! Diego Elías defeated Karim Abdel in the Gouna International Squash.

¡A reason to be proud for Peru! This Saturday, May 27th, Diego Elías shone in his semifinal match at El Gouna International Squash Open against former world champion Karim Abdel Gawad. Our outstanding national representative achieved an impressive victory of 3-1 against a highly challenging opponent, demonstrating his great progress in his career. He will now prepare for the next stage, in the third round.

In recent months, these two outstanding international athletes have faced each other twice, with Gawad winning at the World Championship and the Optasia Championship. However, this time it was the South American athlete who achieved success, winning the third and fourth set after his opponent tied the match with a victory in the second set.

“I feel really happy. Playing against Gawad in my first match here was really tough, so I had to be focused from the first point and I'm happy I did it. He beat me the last two times in March and April, so it's very recent. I don't think I played my best squash in the last two matches, but he played really well. I prepared well for this and I'm happy,” said Elías.

“He's really tough and we all know it! He's been No.1 in the world and World Champion. He just reached the final of the World Championship a couple of weeks ago. He's really tough and I've faced him many times, so I'm happy I played well and didn't get into too much trouble,” added Diego.

In line with this, this Sunday, May 28th, on the glass court of El Gouna, the Peruvian will face Eain Yow Ng, who obtained a victory with the same score against Mexican Leonel Cárdenas. The duel will take place at 12:00 p.m. (Peru time) and will be broadcasted by Squash TV.
