Today, Friday May 19th, Cienciano del Cusco used their social media to announce the dismissal of Colombian coach Leonel Álvarez prior to the match against Atlético Grau de Piura for the 16th round of the Torneo Apertura 2023.

"After analyzing the sports situation of the club among all the board members and the coaching staff led by professor Leonel Álvarez, the parties have mutually agreed to terminate their contractual relationship as of today," said Cienciano on their Twitter account.

Similarly, the 'Papá' reiterated their gratitude to the Colombian coach who arrived at the end of the 2022 season: "We thank Professor Álvarez and his coaching staff for their professionalism and wish them success in their future projects."

As it is remembered, the Cusco team was not going through a good moment in the Torneo Apertura 2023, since in one of their last matches they drew 1-1 against César Vallejo, playing at home.

Finally, it is worth noting that Álvarez's dismissal comes just a few days before Cienciano faces a new match in the Liga 1 against Atlético Grau in Piura. A duel that will be crucial during this final part of the Torneo Apertura.
