A couple of weeks ago, there was a meeting at Videna between the authorities of the Professional Football League and the National Referees Commission (CONAR), with the aim of announcing the details of the implementation of VAR in our championship: Peru and Venezuela are currently the only countries that do not have video assistant referee system in their leagues. Amidst this, it has already been confirmed that this technology will be used starting from the Clausura Tournament; that is why tests of the system are already being carried out, as Agustín Lozano, President of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) stated.
“We are emphasizing the preparation of the referees, starting gradually has been the most appropriate decision,” stated the head of the FPF. “The investment in VAR will be assumed by the Federation, this tool will allow us to have better competition at the national and international level,” he added.
However, he emphasized that “the Federation is committed, not only to installing VAR in the Clausura Tournament, but also to continue training referees from the provinces, and for that, we will call on international instructors”.
It is worth mentioning that last Monday, at the Alberto Gallardo stadium, there was the opportunity to use this tool in a friendly match between the reserves of Sport Boys and Cantolao, in order to test the camera system, as well as the performance of the referees with VAR.
Among those present in that match was Bhaveshan Moorghen, FIFA's Football Technology Manager, to certify the VAR technology in our country, as a prior and necessary step before the final certification is granted.
In this way, the FPF plans to implement VAR for the Clausura Tournament, so it continues to fine-tune details to conclude the third and final stage of the VAR certification, granted by FIFA. The instructors -from the trainings- are Óscar Julián Ruiz from FIFA and Víctor Hugo Carrillo, Head Referee Instructor VAR of CONAR-FPF.
