The battle for the television rights of certain clubs in Liga 1 is a battle that has not yet come to an end. This time, it involves Uruguayan businessman Francisco Casal, also known as 'Paco', who left a strong statement that is impacting the national soccer, after his visit to our capital.
Casal is the owner of GolTV, a sports subscription channel that is responsible for broadcasting matches and/or sporting events internationally. Similarly, he is one of the most important partners of the Peruvian Soccer Consortium, which until a year ago had all the broadcasting rights for Liga 1, a power that was lost with the arrival of 1190 Sports in 2023.
There has been much talk about this dispute, about who is on the right side or not, but the only thing that is certain is that there is currently no clear consensus among the clubs that want to continue to belong to the GOLPERU channel, such as Alianza Lima and Universitario de Deportes, the latter being a club that, due to having a valid contract, currently has no problems broadcasting its matches on said channel, which is not the case for Alianza Lima.
However, going back to the topic of 'Paco' Casal, the businessman was categorical regarding the negotiations he had with the people who organize the Peruvian championship. "They thought they could come and negotiate with me (Liga 1) and take millions from me, but they were wrong, they ran into a brick wall", said Luis Carrillo Pinto.
Nevertheless, the most remarkable thing that came out of his brief conversation with Casal, was the following damning statement: "The only thing I'm going to tell you, and let everyone in football understand it, is that you can leave the ICU, but not the cemetery, because you're dead. And they killed Peruvian soccer", said the partner of the Peruvian Soccer Consortium about the fight for the television rights.
What matches does GOLPERU broadcast in 2023?
Unlike previous years, in 2023 GOLPERU only has the broadcasting rights for four clubs, as long as they play at home, such as Universitario de Deportes, Carlos Mannucci, Sport Boys, and Deportivo Municipal.
