Note that this year 2023 the Peruvian Government established that April 29th be a non-working day for the public sector, thus joining the holiday on May 1st. On the other hand, let's remember that the next holiday is June 7th.

How much will I be paid if I work on May 1st?

According to Legislative Decree 713 - Law on Paid Rest, if you have to work on May 1st (Labor Day) without any rest afterwards, you can earn up to triple pay.

What happens if I work on a holiday and it's my day off?

If you have to work on May 1st and it's also your day off, the following additional payments will be made in your favor:

  • Payment for the holiday
  • Payment of the daily wage
  • Payment for the day off with a 100% surcharge

What is the difference between a holiday and a non-working day?

Keep in mind that a holiday is a paid rest day that can also be compensated with another substitute rest day. However, the non-working day, which is always established by the Government, must be compensated with another working day or overtime, depending on the agreement with the employer.
