It's back. The 2023 Promotion and Reserve Tournament will start in May with the participation of the 19 teams that make up the Liga1, and will be televised by Nativa TV, Liga1 channel, and the FPF Play digital platform.
In this sense, Jesus Gonzales, manager of the Professional Football League (PFL), explains that, for this new season, the competition format will consist of a decentralized regular phase where the participating clubs will play against each other in a single round.
"We will try as much as possible to make most of the tournament mirror the fixture of the Liga1 Clausura, where the 19 teams will face each other in a single round. Subsequently, the top 12 teams will advance to the playoffs, being divided into two groups. The championship will end in the month of November with the semifinal and final phases that will be played home and away," Gonzales declares.
The base of registered players eligible to participate in this tournament will be the 2001 category, aiming at players who can be observed to join the Peruvian Under-23 national team in the next year's Pre-Olympic Games and to prepare the Under-20 national team for the category tournament in 2025. In addition, Jesus Gonzales adds that "each team must have 4 under-18 players on the field. This way, the commitment to ensuring that the clubs' work with young talents is ongoing is reaffirmed."
Finally, unlike previous years, the champion of the 2023 Promotion and Reserve Tournament will not help to give an additional score to the clubs in Liga1.
