Whole families, adults, young people and children will be able to enjoy an unprecedented day in our country, when the 'Punta Rocas Open Pro' begins, an international competition of the World Surf League (WSL), in which the best surfers from South America will participate, from the impressive Centro de alto rendimiento (CAR) Legado Punta Rocas, recognized for being the only specialized facility in this sport and homologated in America.
From April 13th to 16th, surf lovers will experience a family festival, with activations, music, tastings and training within the modern facility, while the best surfers from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru showcase their skills, challenging the waves of the sea.
Undoubtedly, this is the perfect occasion to support national surfers, taking into account the important achievements that this sport has given our country in recent years.
Peru will be represented by standout surfers such as: Miguel Tudela, the first Peruvian to win a South American title in the male category of the WSL; Cristóbal de Col, junior world champion; Alonso Correa, winner of the Copa Sails of Change Galápagos 2023; among others. This list also includes Sol Aguirre, a Peruvian who has won the South American Pro-Junior championship four times. She also finished her participation in the 2023 Junior Surf World Championship, ranking among the top 8 of the tournament.
"I'm happy to be home. I will compete in front of the Peruvian audience and I hope everyone comes to support us. This is my last year competing in the junior category, but I will also be in the open category. Daniela Rosas, who was crowned South American champion among adults, will also be there, as well as Miguel Tudela. The level is very high," said 19-year-old Sol Aguirre.
Aguirre, along with a group of Peruvians and foreigners, has been training at CAR Punta Rocas prior to the competition. It is a tough challenge, as part of the second edition of the 'Punta Rocas Open Pro', where surfers belonging to the Open QS1000 and Pro Juniors categories will shine.
"Having a venue available for surfing is incredible, as well as the waves that exist here. I thank Legado for helping the sport. Peruvian surfing is growing. Now I am focused on standing out in this championship, then we compete to qualify for Chile 2023, then the Olympics and become the world champion of the WSL circuit," added Sol Aguirre.
The 'Punta Rocas Open Pro' is an important date on the South American WQS circuit, which will distribute S/.60,000 and 1,000 points for the Open and Pro Junior categories. CAR Surf Legacy Punta Rocas was built for the Lima 2019 Games; it has a lodge with 34 comfortable rooms and is also accessible to people with disabilities.
