Aldo Corzo: Fossati's philosophy and why Riveros stood up at the penalty spot against Gimnasia.

The defender of Universitario de Deportes referred to the methodology of the Uruguayan strategist, as well as to the match against Gimnasia for the Copa Sudamericana 2023.

The defender of Universitario de Deportes referred to the methodology of the Uruguayan strategist, as well as to the match against Gimnasia for the Copa Sudamericana 2023.

Universitario de Deportes added three important points last weekend, after winning 2-1 against Atlético Grau. The goal is for the team to continue fighting among the top positions in the local tournament (it is in second place, with 19 points), despite playing in a parallel tournament: the Copa Sudamericana. Precisely, in the debut of the group stage of this international competition, the 'cremas' achieved an important victory and Jorge Fossati is behind this success, as acknowledged by Aldo Corzo.

The 'merengue' defender admitted in a dialogue with RPP that professor Fossati "put his idea into practice, was practical, and worked us a lot psychologically, I think that's why we see these results. Now we are in good times and we must stay calm". But that was not the only thing he talked about regarding the Uruguayan coach.

Another point that stood out was the three-man backline that he designed since his arrival, as it was a rarely used scheme in Ate. "I was not surprised to play in a three-man backline because I had found out and knew that he played like that. I knew there was that possibility and I took it well", he said.

In that sense, he confessed, "Fossati asked me if I had ever played in a three-man backline and I said yes. It's a position where you have to be well positioned". He even said, "as long as I can play, I can be in a three-man backline or as a full-back. I want to contribute to the team and I'm comfortable wherever".

Good start in the Sudamericana

Aldo Corzo also commented on the match that Universitario de Deportes had against Gimnasia, where they won 1-0 in La Plata. He especially referred to the penalty in favor of the 'cremas'. "There was a handball that was not called against Gimnasia and in the second handball I had to go to the referee, because it was very blatant. The VAR was hesitating and I asked him to review it", he expressed.

Likewise, he revealed details that happened before Alexander Succar took the penalty kick: "Williams Riveros stood on the penalty spot because the Gimnasia players started to make holes in that place. That's why".
