The national midfielder received a straight red card towards the end of the match, after a strong tackle against Lelé (Leanderson da Silva) that was initially forgiven by referee Wilmar Roldán, only with a yellow card. However, the Colombian referee changed his decision after reviewing the foul on VAR.

The match between Sporting Cristal and Fluminense closed the first round of Group D of the Libertadores, which was opened on Tuesday by The Strongest and River Plate, in La Paz, with a 3-1 victory for the Bolivians.

Fluminense comfortably defeated Sporting Cristal 1-3 on Wednesday with goals from Argentinean Germán Cano twice and Brazilian Vitor Mendes, for the first round of Group D in the Copa Libertadores held at Estadio Nacional de Lima.
