Pedro Gallese was accurate again, this time for the Peru vs. Morocco match, in an international friendly played in Madrid. The national goalkeeper managed to prevent the opponent's first goal, but it wasn't the only time he did it, as the African team has been gaining ground on the field.
At the 18th minute of the match, the Moroccan team generated a dangerous situation in the Peruvian zone, taking the ball to the goal of the 'Pulpo'. The play was very close to being completed, but the Peruvian goalkeeper didn't let the ball in, making a prophetic save.
The blanquirrojo team has been able to generate interesting situations on the rival's field, but none as close as those of the Moroccan team. The team, which finished among the top four in the world, has been able to take advantage of spaces and defensive errors, so the national team will have to make changes to avoid goals against them.
The Objectives of the Peruvian National Team
The Peruvian National Team arrived in Spain with the objective of playing two matches against strong opponents, such as Germany and Morocco, both World Cup participants and the latter among the top four teams in the world. Although they were not randomly chosen opponents, they do fit what the coaching staff wants for the team: competition.
CONMEBOL announced the schedule of matches that the 'blanquirrojo' will have for the qualifying rounds for the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, United States, and Canada. The fixture starts with Paraguay in Asuncion in September 2023 and ends against the 'guaraníes' in Lima in September 2025. The playoff will be in March 2026.
With that in mind, the March and June friendlies will serve as preliminary tests for the start of the Qualifiers, where the national team hopes to secure their spot in the 18 matches that will be played and not in a playoff. Although there will be six spots available this time, the coaching staff doesn't want to be overconfident.
