This Sunday Deportivo Municipal defeated Union Comercio 2-0 in the first round of the Liga 1 Betsson 2023 at the Ivan Elias Moreno Stadium, and after the match, the team's squad appeared before the press to raise their voice of protest over the administration's debts.
Jair Céspedes, the team captain, was in charge of reading the statement: "We want to inform the members, fans, and general public about the situation we are going through. As we have indicated in a previous statement, they owe us 60% of January, the entire month of February, and this week March ends."
He continued: "Last Friday, part of the Club's Commission met with us to inform us that from that day on they would take control of the club and that they would only have enough to pay us for the month of February, without specifying how the debts for January and the upcoming month of March would be paid. The team has listened to them while maintaining our stance of not concentrating but still showing up to play out of respect for the club, the fans, and our profession."
He also added: "We have expressed our needs, asking them to guarantee that they will catch up on the total debt, not just a portion of it, not only for our families but also for the institution because we don't want any more points deduction and be harmed sportingly. Our goal is to be protagonists in the tournament as the club's history demands."
Finally, he stated: "We want them to guarantee the continuity of our medical insurance, which is valid until next Friday. We want working conditions such as the training facility, transportation, hotels, concentration, and the payment for our rehabilitation machines, which are currently inactive. Today, one of our teammates had to pay 1200 soles for the team's breakfast because neither the outgoing administration nor the incoming commission wanted to take responsibility."
