Amid the difficult situation in some areas of Peru due to heavy rains, the Minister of Education, Óscar Becerra, confirmed that the start of the school year in schools in Lima Metropolitana and Lima Region will be postponed following the alert of heavy rainfall in the capital due to the influence of cyclone Yaku.
According to the representative of the Ministry of Education (Minedu), classes in public and private institutions will start on Monday, March 20. "Senamhi has issued an alert about possible highly unusual and high rainfall for the Lima area due to cyclone Yaku (...) In Lima, we are not prepared for above-normal precipitation," explained Becerra.
In that sense, the Minister of Education pointed out that from the Executive Branch, "we do not want to create panic, but we are very accustomed to reacting after the emergency occurs. In this case, we are doing the opposite and we want to be cautious. Hopefully, all these precautions will be in vain and it won't rain so much."
