The former captain of Universitario spoke forcefully about the present of the 'merengues', as he considers that Compagnucci is not the only "culprit" of the results crisis.

Antonio Gonzales was an elemental part of the last two titles that Universitario de Deportes won. Today, with a worrying panorama for the fans, 'Toñito' speaks out to express his criticism of the team that has recently suffered three consecutive defeats.

In an interview with Trome, 'Toñito' Gonzales made it clear that, according to his point of view, the departure of Carlos Compagnucci will not be the solution to get out of the abyss in which the 'merengues' have fallen.

"He is not the only one to blame. There are three: the coaching staff, the players, and the directors," said the former midfielder. He also pointed out Yuriel Celi and the signing of players who do not show commitment on the field.

"How can Yuriel Celi celebrate his birthday after losing the derby? That is incomprehensible," commented Antonio Gonzales, and revealed what would have happened if this had occurred during his time as a player.

"I would arrive at training and they would lock themselves in with him. We knew that, when signing for 'U', you have to forget even the day you were born and only worry about winning. They sign players and do not explain to them the history of the club, what it means to defend that jersey," he said.

Nevertheless, he pointed out that not all is lost, since historically Universitario can reverse this complicated situation: "With the 'U' jersey, you can win even with your mouth. That is the advantage of wearing these colors... Because it is Universitario and with those colors you can change any situation," he concluded.
