As a result of the global fertilizer crisis, rice, potato, and corn crop production in our country decreased by up to 40%. This shortage led to a significant increase in the prices of essential food items, which caused millions of households to be unable to access these products.

In the face of this complicated situation, the Government of Peru decided to provide a special economic subsidy of 270 soles for families who were most affected: the Food Bonus, which will continue to benefit more than 4.2 million compatriots in poverty and extreme poverty this year 2023.

How do I know if I have the Food Bonus?

The Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) reported that there are three situations that could qualify Peruvians to be included in the registry for this special 270 soles subsidy. These are the requirements imposed by our authorities:

  • All Peruvians in poverty or extreme poverty, according to the Household Focalization System (Sisfoh).
  • Those households without private or public payroll income, pensioners, survivors, and also the formative modality.
  • Families whose incomes do not exceed the minimum vital remuneration, valued at 1,025.00 soles.

To ensure that you are among the beneficiaries, you can access this LINK and by simply entering your ID and registration date, you can automatically find out if you are entitled to this bonus. You can also call the toll-free line 101 to make your inquiry.

How to claim the Food Bonus?

The state detailed that there are a total of 5 payment methods for you to easily claim this economic subsidy. The intention is that even in the most remote areas of Peru, people can enjoy this bonus. You can collect this subsidy until April 30 at the latest.

  • Deposit into an account. If the beneficiary has an account with the Banco de la Nación or another financial institution, the money will be deposited directly there. You can collect it at any ATM or authorized agent.
  • Digital wallets. If you have your own account with Yape, Tunki, or Agora Pay, you can make your purchases at different authorized stores. Remember that your cellphone line must be in your name.
  • Payment at bank branches. If you do not have a bank account or any of these digital wallets, you can go to Banco de la Nación branches to receive this payment.
  • Mobile payment units. For the most remote communities, especially in the jungle and the highlands, vehicles have been arranged to reach these locations and deliver the money to beneficiaries.
