FBC Melgar was one of the clubs that did not show up to play on matchday 3 of the Liga 1 Betsson 2023. Meanwhile, Horacio Orzán, midfielder for the Arequipa team, spoke with RPP Noticias about this stance and their expectations for the next match, considering that, if they lose by walkover again, they would be relegated.

"We owe ourselves to Melgar and if that's the position they took, we respect it and that's why we didn't show up. We're waiting expectantly for a solution," Orzán said in an interview with Fútbol Como Cancha.

Orzán added: "We know the regulations, but we owe ourselves to the club, we can't do anything until they tell us we're playing. The leaders are clear about it. We represent Melgar and we believe they are making the best decision. They hired us and we trust that they are doing what's best for the club and for us."

About what might happen in the next match, Orzán said: "We're working to play in the Liga 1. I think we'll play on Monday or the match will be postponed. I believe it will be resolved." Finally, Orzán stated: "We prepare ourselves, we're enthusiastic and we know we have to play in the Copa Libertadores, but everything started to be delayed and we're in uncertainty."

FBC Melgar's position:

FBC Melgar is part of the group of seven clubs that prior to the start of the Liga 1 2023 had reaffirmed their intention not to play due to the differences they have with the Peruvian Football Federation regarding the television rights in the tournament. In addition to 'Dominó', the institutions that signed the document include Alianza Lima, Sport Boys, Cienciano, Cusco FC, Deportivo Municipal, and Binacional. However, the 'rosado' team did show up to play against Unión Comercio on Monday.
