Lunes 30 de Enero del 2023

Former Cristal forward and ESPN commentator reveals that Paolo Guerrero will show the same level as in Avaí FC due to a complicated injury. "Those who have torn ligaments know what I'm talking about," he said.

Paolo Guerrero has not yet debuted with Racing Club in Argentina, but Julinho, panelist of ESPN's Equipo F show, was once again pessimistic about the situation of the 'Depredador', in reference to his complicated right knee injury, which could bring him new frustrations in Avellaneda.

I want to comment on something, I don't want to be negative. I repeat, I love Paolo Guerrero, I love him, but I have a different point of view. There are different types of injuries. Some injuries leave drastic consequences, and Paolo's is one of them,” said the former national team player.

The medical tests at Racing are not enough evidence for the former Sporting Cristal player. “Paolo had a session with the doctors and a training session to assess the condition of his knee. Training sessions are one thing, competition is another. Argentina has just become champion, all eyes are on them, and the level of competition will increase,” he commented.

"When a knee is opened, it doesn't go back to being the same"

The Brazilian naturalized Peruvian revealed the importance of the knee for a football player. "Paolo's injury happened in 2020 with Inter (Porto Alegre) and he still suffers from it today, because these are injuries that leave sequelae. The knee is our center of gravity as football players. There are movements that you can't do after an injury like that," he explained.

"No matter how much you work, there are movements that you can't make, you feel the knee is locked, you can't fully extend it, I speak from personal experience. My fear is not for Paolo, but for the stress on the knee," he expressed.

The goal scorer who also wore the Peruvian national team jersey acknowledged that he experienced a similar episode, with bitter experiences. "In my case, I would say: I'm totally recovered, but after training, my knee would be swollen. Competition is different, you collide and get tackled. When a knee is opened, it doesn't go back to being the same. Those who have torn ligaments know what I'm talking about," he concluded.
