At the meeting held this afternoon, the National Commission against Violence agreed that the start of League 1 should be postponed, due to the chaotic situation that is taking place in the country.

This Wednesday, the National Commission against Violence agreed in a meeting to recommend the total suspension of the second round of the Opening Tournament, which was scheduled to start this Friday, January 27, due to the disturbances that have been occurring in the country, because of the citizen protests both in Lima and in other regions.

According to RPP, the organization deems it necessary to postpone the start of the championship, for the safety of the teams and attendees. Previously, five home teams had received a letter from the National Police of Peru (PNP), indicating that they would not have the required guarantees for this sports day, the same as happened last week with the first round.

For now, the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) has not commented on the matter, although it previously stated in a statement that both the second and third rounds would be held, pending approval from the authorities. "The matches of the Liga 1 Betsson 2023, corresponding to rounds 2 and 3, are subject to possible modifications according to the social situation that the country is experiencing."

The matches that did not have the necessary guarantees to be played were Alianza Lima vs. Deportivo Municipal, Academia Cantolao vs. Sport Boys, Binational vs. ADT, Melgar vs. Deportivo Garcilaso, and Cienciano vs. César Vallejo.

It should be noted that the recommendation of the National Commission against Violence is also due to the fact that police officers are deployed in strategic areas, where demonstrations are concentrated, so there would not be enough personnel to control large-scale events.

The first round of the Opening Tournament was not played last weekend, due to the massive call of demonstrators against the authorities in the Executive and Legislative branches. To date, the clashes have not ceased, especially in the southern provinces, where even airports are closed.
