"The club is always above everything," a banner phrase today in Universitario. Proof of this is the official return of Alex Valera to the club, despite the fact that the forward did not leave Ate on good terms. As you may recall, the player stated that nobody from the club said goodbye to him when he decided to have his first experience abroad.
Valera signed with Al-Fateh of Saudi Arabia, but things did not go as expected and he returned to 'U' stating that there was mishandling in his departure from the cream team last season, so he apologized. "I am very grateful to Manuel Barreto for the management to be able to return to the club. Unfortunately, last year things did not go as expected, perhaps it was mishandled and I apologize to the club and the fans. I come here to work, to play, to earn my place and give my best for the club," said Valera in a press conference.
Later, the national striker added: "For me, the club will always come first, second and third. I simply come here to play, to work... and I don't want photos or videos or to show off, all I want is to work and give my best for the club."

Also speaking at the press conference was the cream team's sports director, Manuel Barreto, who supported Valera, who signed a two-season contract with the club.
"We are only passing through the club. We know what Alex can bring to the club and it is a new opportunity that life gives him to do what he likes the most, which is playing soccer. The important thing is that we are united and together with the same objective," he said.
He also confirmed that the forward will travel with the team to Chile.

Sepúlveda is not going
Bruno Sepúlveda, an Argentine forward who was recently part of Estudiantes de Río Cuarto, has been ruled out from joining Universitario, as confirmed by Barreto. "Bruno Sepúlveda, at least in this transfer market, will not be a player for Universitario. With the signing of Alex (Valera), the foreign player spot would not be allocated to a forward," said the director. That spot could be used in another position, but not for Roberto Siucho, who is training with the team waiting to regain Peruvian nationality.
"It will depend a lot on the conversations with the coaching staff, on what he sees every day in training and also on this tour. It will depend a lot on that," added Barreto, making the objectives clear.
"Universitario's obligation is always to win every game they play, so the squads are formed based on that. We all have that clear," he concluded.
