The Peruvian U20 National Team is preparing to compete in the South American U20 Championship, which will take place in Colombia from January 19 to February 12. Jaime Serna, coach of the team, talked about the training sessions they have been doing and their next steps.
"We have been working really well, doing double shifts, and starting today (Wednesday) we are already focused on the U20 South American Championship. After the match against Bolivia, we are already managing the list of the 23 players who will travel," said the national coach.
"We have a really tough group, but if we don't get excited and compete, we can't dedicate ourselves to football. The goal is to compete and qualify for the World Cup," added Serna.
Peru's path in the South American U20 Championship
The first round of the South American U20 Championship will be played in the department of Valle del Cauca, at the Pascual Guerrero Stadium. Once the six teams that qualify for the final phase are known, the tournament will move to the Colombian capital. The Nemesio Camacho El Campín stadium will be the venue.
The tournament will take place from January 19 to February 12. The top three teams from each group will qualify for a final hexagonal stage, where they will play against each other to determine the champion of the continental tournament and the qualifying spots. Four spots are available for the U20 World Cup, to be held in Indonesia this year, as well as three tickets for the 2023 Pan American Games, in which Chile, as the host, already has a reserved spot.
