The dispute over the broadcasting rights of Peruvian football continues. Last Friday, January 6, eight clubs from the Liga 1 signed and issued a statement threatening to withdraw from the championship if the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) does not give up the precautionary measure that prevents them from negotiating their audiovisual rights.
The teams that support the continuation of the Peruvian football Consortium (GOLPERU) are Alianza Lima, Universitario de Deportes, FBC Melgar, Sport Boys, Cienciano, Deportivo Binacional, Cusco FC, and Deportivo Municipal.
"It is public knowledge that the Seventh Commercial Court still maintains the validity of the precautionary measure filed by the FPF, who went to and submitted to regular justice. Currently, the effects of all the contracts related to broadcasting rights are suspended, and their reinstatement depends solely and exclusively on the Judicial Power, and not on the parties (FPF)," reads the first point of the document.
"This precautionary measure (aggressive and disproportionate) harms all followers of national football since our matches will not be televised and/or broadcasted by ANY means: cable operator or open signal. This situation will also generate contingencies with our sponsors and other strategic partners, affecting other economic incomes," the document continues.
"This detrimental context was caused by the FPF, who must rectify immediately; therefore, we request that the FPF WITHDRAW the precautionary action filed with the commercial court; otherwise, the signing clubs will not participate in the Liga 1 Betsson 2023 Championship," these eight clubs point out.
