On December 11, 2022, Ronald Ruiz suffered a car accident at kilometer 16 of the Piura-Paita road. His 9-year-old son and his 7-year-old daughter died as a result of the unfortunate incident.
The goalkeeper of Atlético Grau reappeared on his social networks and shared an emotional video to thank for the support and prayers, and also issued an emotional message to his children.
"Our beloved children have embarked on a long journey where they are enjoying the presence of God. (...) we will count the days to embrace them again and be together as the great family we always were and will continue to be," expressed Ronald Ruiz.
"We want to thank our family, friends, acquaintances, and other people who, without knowing us, have felt and accompanied us in our pain. For having given us their company and words of encouragement, and for keeping us in their prayers in the most difficult moments of our lives [...] Our eternal gratitude to all of you," said the goalkeeper.
The footballer also spoke about what 2023 will bring, highlighting that they start this year with love and unity, showing their faith in God.
"We do not know what this new year holds for us, but we start it with a lot of love, unity, strength, resilience, and faith that God will continue writing the story of our lives as He wants and until when He wants," he said.
