Melgar's striker gave details of what his arrival to the 'Dominó' team meant and the challenges he will face with his new team in the upcoming season.

Melgar is one of the teams that seeks to be a protagonist in the next edition of the Liga 1 and, to achieve this goal, decided to hire Pablo Magnín. Precisely, the forward was one of the most requested during the presentation of the new signings of 'Dominó', revealing how his first days were in the Arequipa team.

"I have been received very well at the club. I am surprised by the kindness of the people, the cordiality they have, and the treatment I have received these days. I have the opportunity to play in the Libertadores again. I must be patient to get to know the team's environment," said the player in a press conference.

Pablo Magnin knows that it is not easy to achieve the goals with his new team, but he will do everything possible for Melgar to add a new trophy to its record and reaffirm the good performance it had in the recent edition of the Copa Sudamericana (eliminated in the semifinals against Independiente del Valle, the club that would be champion of the tournament).

"It is not easy to leave your native country with your family to a club you don't know, a city you don't know. Everything is very different," added one of the new additions to the red and black team for the upcoming season, in which they will compete for the Liga 1 and play in the Copa Libertadores group stage.

Challenges for Melgar in 2023

Next year, Melgar will compete in the Liga 1 and the group stage of the Copa Libertadores. The last time 'Dominó' participated in the mentioned international tournament was in 2019, when they finished in third place and qualified for the Sudamericana. This time, the goal is to reach the round of 16.

With that in mind, the squad underwent medical exams on December 12 to start the preseason. Since then, the players have continued working in Arequipa, with the exception of Bruno Portugal, Kenji Cabrera, Matías Lazo, and André Vásquez, who were called up for the Under-20 Peruvian National Team, for the South American Championship of the category.
