Melgar does not stop working. The preseason in Arequipa continues tirelessly, as the players and coaching staff are aware that the next season will be big (they will seek the title of Liga 1 and make a good role in the Copa Libertadores). The main references of the team have been there since day one, but the new signings are joining, such as Pablo Magnín.
The Argentine forward arrived this morning in the 'White City' to join the red and black team. It is scheduled for him to undergo routine medical examinations and then join the training sessions along with the rest of the squad. With his goal-scoring experience, he hopes to be a good complement for the local tournament and the Copa Libertadores.
"HE IS ALREADY IN AREQUIPA! Pablo Magnín arrived this morning in the White City and is ready to put on this glorious red and black," the club's official account posted, along with the image of the 32-year-old striker, who comes directly from Tigres, a team where he has been one of the top scorers.
Magnín is not the only reinforcement for the team for the 2023 season. Looking ahead to the new campaign, the club has announced the signing of Jhamir D'Arrigo, André Vásquez, and Sebastián Cavero from the local league. Meanwhile, from Argentina, midfielder Tomás Martínez was signed, who has had a long career in teams from America and Europe.
Challenges for Melgar in 2023
Next year, Melgar will compete in the Liga 1 and the group stage of the Copa Libertadores. The last time the 'Dominó' participated in the mentioned international tournament was in 2019, when they finished third and qualified for the Sudamericana. This time, the goal is to advance to the round of 16.
With that in mind, the squad underwent medical examinations on December 12 to begin the preseason. Since then, the players have continued working in Arequipa, except for Bruno Portugal, Kenji Cabrera, Matías Lazo, and André Vásquez, who were called up for the Peruvian U20 National Team in preparation for the U20 South American Championship.
