The final of the 2022 season of the Liga 1 will be between Alianza Lima and Melgar, teams that were crowned in the Apertura and Clausura respectively. The definition will be in home and away matches, which generates doubts among fans about what will happen if the teams tie in all aspects. Here we explain how the champion will be determined.
HOW IS THE LIGA 1 CHAMPION DEFINED?
The first criterion to define the champion between Alianza Lima vs. Melgar is the number of points in the finals: the team that wins one match and draws the other will receive the title. In case each club has obtained a victory, the team that has scored the most goals will receive the trophy (away goals do not count extra).
If the tie persists (also in case of draws in both matches), the match will go directly to the penalty shootout. There will be no extra time.
WHEN DO ALIANZA LIMA vs. MELGAR PLAY?
The first leg of Alianza Lima vs. Melgar will be played this Wednesday, November 9, at the Monumental Stadium of the UNSA (3:00 p.m.). The second leg is scheduled for Saturday, November 12, starting at 8:00 p.m., at the Alejandro Villanueva Stadium (Matute).
