Good news for national sports. Itzel Delgado, Peruvian surfer, secured her qualification for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. This, after qualifying for the final of the ISA World Championship in the technical SUP RACE modality.
Our compatriot qualified for the final along with 11 athletes who will compete for the gold medal. However, with only three athletes from the American zone, she secured her spot, as the championship offers four places for Santiago.
"Congratulations to Itzel for qualifying for the Pan American Games and for always representing Peru with pride," wrote the National Sports Federation of Surfing in a note published on its website.
The chance to compete for the gold medal at the championship held in Puerto Rico gave her the opportunity to join the Peruvian delegation that will represent us in the upcoming Pan American Games, which will take place next year in the capital of Chile. On the other hand, in the SUP PRINT RACE category of the ISA World Championship, she managed to secure fifth place.
Itzel Delgado, a 24-year-old surfer, will seek to equal or improve her performance at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. On that occasion, in the Stand Up Paddle modality, she won the bronze medal.
