The former 'crema' player explained the origin of his 'nickname' and how it became famous over another one that had been given to him at the club. In addition, he revealed who gave him the nickname that he didn't like but had to put up with.
“'Cara de Vaca' put me that nickname, when he puts that and everyone laughs, sh*t, that nickname doesn't stick. I changed it to Karembeu, like the former French player, and 'Puma started calling me that and people started calling me that”, he recounted.
But Cordero was not well known for being 'Cara de Vaca' or 'Karembeu', he is known by everyone as 'Pompo' and he himself told us how he ended up with that nickname.
Neighbor shouted 'Pompo' and everything changed
“One day when I was playing at the Nacional, a neighbor of mine shouted 'Pompo', which was the nickname in my neighborhood, the journalists heard it and that's how they started calling me in the newspapers. Better, because 'cara de vaca' wasn't it, ha, ha, ha. I'm happy”, he added.
Luis Cordero became a protagonist again in Peruvian soccer, and this time as a coach of the good women's soccer team Carlos A. Mannucci who finished as runner-up in the Liga Femenina and is looking for revenge next season.
