The Peruvian women's volleyball team was crowned champion of the South American Games Asunción 2022 this Friday. The national team, with Karla Ortiz as one of the most experienced players, defeated Argentina in the grand final, in an amazing match that lasted five sets.
In the end, the Peruvian team emerged victorious, with a scoreline of 3-2, in a thrilling match that took place on one of the courts of the Paraguayan Volleyball Federation. The sets were 22-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-19 and 15-11.

Peru obtained the decisive point with great effort and after several seconds. Argentina's attempted set up did not go well, and it was taken advantage of by our volleyball players, who anticipated at the net and surprised their opponents. Point 15 and time to celebrate.
"Everyone wanted to win, the entire coaching staff, everyone was celebrating. It was achieved and this is for the whole of Peru. It was a difficult match, we knew Argentina was going to come to win and we wanted the same. We knew what we were playing for," said the Peruvian Aixa Vigil, excited about the achievement, to the official Panam Sports channel.
This success marked the second gold medal for a Peruvian volleyball team throughout the South American Games. The title also brought Peru's total to 19 gold medals in the multi-sport event being held in Asunción. In addition, the national delegation has 17 silver medals and 36 bronze medals.
