FPF warns clubs of a suspension in the tournament if they renew with the current operator.

The Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) indicated that clubs would violate the statutes if they renew with Gol Peru, and this circumstance could lead to suspension in Liga 1, Copa Libertadores, or Sudamericana.

The Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) indicated that clubs would violate the statutes if they renew with Gol Peru, and this circumstance could lead to suspension in Liga 1, Copa Libertadores, or Sudamericana.

The Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) has reached an agreement with 1190 Sports for the broadcasting rights of the Liga 1 in the 2023 season and announced great benefits. However, the governing body of national football is aware that some teams do not approve the new contract (Alianza Lima, Universitario, Binacional, Alianza Atlético, Melgar, and Cienciano) and have warned about what could happen if they do not comply with the rules.

"If any club wanted to renew with the current operator for broadcasting (Gol Perú), they would clearly be violating the FPF statute and, therefore, a procedure could be opened that could lead to the suspension of the competitions organized by the Federation, CONMEBOL, or FIFA itself," said Dr. Carlos Caro Coria.

In this way, sports entities that do not accept the contract with 1190 Sports would jeopardize their participation in the Copa Libertadores or Sudamericana. Precisely, the spokesperson for the Federation cited both tournaments as an example since the participating teams must adhere to the rules of the competitions and cannot sell the TV rights.

"The Peruvian Football Federation, in accordance with Article 77 of its statute, has the exclusive and excluding rights for the broadcasting of all competitions, including those of Liga 1. This statute has been approved by the Assembly of Bases, with the participation of the Liga 1 clubs themselves," highlighted Carlos Caro Coria.

Likewise, the legal representative explained the great economic benefits for Liga 1: "First, each club will receive 20% more than what they are currently receiving from the current operator; second, each club will receive a one-time payment of $500,000; and third, the clubs, as a whole, will have 70% of the profits generated by this new business model, as has happened in other countries,".

Finally, Carlos Caro Coria assured that Gol Perú had the opportunity to submit an offer but did not participate in the process and can no longer do so. "It is legally impossible for the current operator to make contact with the teams regarding broadcast rights because those rights belong exclusively and excluding to the Peruvian Football Federation. No one can buy or sell a right that does not belong to them," he concluded.
