Alianza Lima became the two-time champion of the Women's League by defeating (3-0) Carlos A. Mannucci in a spectacular setting, with over 30 thousand fans filling the Alejandro Villanueva stadium. However, the team must quickly turn the page and rest from the celebrations because an important challenge awaits them next week: the 2022 Libertadores Cup.
By winning the 2022 Women's League, Samir Mendoza's players qualified for the continental tournament as representatives of Peru. After the previous draw, they will be in Group D along with América de Cali from Colombia, Santiago Morning from Chile, and Deportivo Lara from Venezuela.
Although the Women's Libertadores Cup will start on Thursday, October 13, the debut of the 'Blanquiazules' will take place on Friday, October 14, when they face the Venezuelan team at the Gonzalo Pozo Ripalda stadium in Quito. As a reminder, the tournament will be held entirely in Ecuador.
Later, Samir Mendoza's team will face Santiago Morning on Monday, October 17. Then, to close out the group stage, they will play against América de Cali, considered the strongest rival in the group, on the 20th of this month.
The Women's Libertadores Cup is carried out with four groups, each consisting of four teams. Depending on how they do in Group D, Alianza Lima should aim to reach the quarterfinals. They have the squad to compete, so we hope they have a good performance in each of the matches.
Alianza Lima and a great precedent in the Women's Libertadores Cup
The last precedent of Alianza Lima in the Women's Libertadores Cup occurred in 2021, the year in which they reached the quarterfinals after finishing in second place in Group C. In that instance, although they did not manage to advance to the semifinals, they gave Corinthians a tough challenge, who won 3-1 and eventually became the champion of the continental tournament.
