Hugo del Castillo won the fourth gold medal for Peru in the South American Games [VIDEO].

The national athlete took first place in taekwondo, in the poomsae category.

Peruvian athlete wins gold in taekwondo at the South American Games

Peru won its fourth gold medal at the 2022 South American Games, which are taking place in the Paraguayan capital until October 15th.

Hugo del Castillo took first place in taekwondo, poomsae modality, by defeating Colombian Isaac Vélez. Previously, the Peruvian defeated Ecuadorian Fernando Salgado in the semifinals.

"Thank you Peru. Thanks to my coach Winnie Yi and all the good vibes that we, athletes, receive. This gold medal is for all of Peru. We continue to give our all," said Del Castillo.

The other gold medals for Peru were obtained by Deyvid Tuesta (skateboarding), María Luisa Doig (fencing), and Alexandra Grande (karate, kumite).

Brazil solidifies its lead
Brazil continued to win medals on the fourth day of the 2022 South American Games, which brings together about 5000 athletes from 15 countries in Asunción.

The Brazilians are leading the medal table with a total of 98 medals, 42 gold, 34 silver, and 22 bronze.

Colombia remained in second place with 81 medals, 28 of them gold. Chile took third place from Venezuela with 10 gold medals, and Argentina placed fourth with 8 gold medals.
