The Peruvian delegation continues to add medals in the South American Games Asunción 2022 and this Tuesday there were great results. Karateka Alexandra Grande won the gold medal in the kumite modality, in the 61 kg category, after defeating Venezuelan Claudymar Garcés in the grand final.
Our national representative began her path to victory against Paraguayan Yennifer Meza, whom she defeated 8-0; while in her second presentation she did the same with the Bolivian Briza Cecilia Sandoval (9-0). Due to her good performance, the athlete of the Peruvian squad was beginning to show herself as a favorite.
Later, Grande overcame Brazilian Sabrina Zefino Pereira (10-1) and, in the semifinals, Argentine Laura Díaz (4-2). Finally, in the dispute for the gold medal, Alexandra imposed conditions on Claudymar Garcés, in a close ending: it was 1-0 in favor of the Peruvian athlete.
Thus, the national karateka led the podium and won the third gold medal for Peru in the South American Games Asunción 2022. Let's remember that Deyvid Tuesta, in Skateboarding, and María Luis Doig, in Fencing, had obtained the first places in their disciplines.
