Jonathan Dos Santos has the dream of returning to 'U'
Universitario de Deportes came close to winning the Liga 1 title in the 2020 season, and one of the standout players that year was forward Jonathan Dos Santos, who became a key figure in the team. Under that context, his departure from the club at the end of the campaign was unexpected, as many wanted him to stay and win the 27th star.
Thanks to the outstanding performance of the Uruguayan forward, the Mexican league was interested in signing him, and Querétaro FC managed to acquire his full rights, leaving 'U' without the possibility to pay for his transfer from Cerro Largo, the club that owned his contract at the time.
Universitario had to find another player to cover the absence of their top scorer, and after an intense search, Alex Valera arrived to wear the colors of the club, while Jonathan Dos Santos headed to Liga MX with the hope of surpassing his 'student' campaign.
The Uruguayan started 2021 with disappointing numbers, as he wasn't included in the squad list and only managed to make appearances in eight games without scoring any goals.
Jonathan Dos Santos aimed to redeem himself in 2022, and just when things were starting to improve and he had scored four goals, he suffered a knee injury and fell out of Querétaro's plans, not even being registered for the 2022 Apertura Tournament.
The idea of the Mexican club was to loan him out once he recovered, which was planned to happen in July-August, but so far there are no signs or updates.
Luis Urruti, who came to Peruvian football with the 30-year-old forward, revealed that the Querétaro FC player still dreams of returning to defend Universitario de Deportes.
"Jonathan Dos Santos always has the dream of returning to 'U'. His contract with Querétaro FC ends at the end of the year. I would like it," 'Tito' declared in an interview with Campeonísimo.
