Find out everything we know about the new Rurouni Kenshin anime.

Fans of Rurouni Kenshin ('Samurai X' from now on) woke up this Saturday with some good news. It turns out that the project for the new anime of this franchise is still ongoing, and to prove it, a new trailer was presented during the Aniplex Online Fest 2022 celebration. This new preview made one thing clear: this new anime will be a reboot of Kenshin's story.

In this new series, the talent of Liden Films animation studio is featured, who have renowned series like Arslan Senki (the most recent adaptation), Killing Bites, Yofukashi no Uta, Tokyo Revengers, and more. Hideyo Yamamoto (Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka and Strike the Blood) will be in charge of directing this adaptation.

What will we see in the new Rurouni Kenshin anime?

The trailer does a good job of making it clear what will be adapted from Kenshin Himura's story. While many believed that the "Jinchuu" saga (where Enishi Yukishiro is introduced) or the current storyline taking place in Hokkaido would be adapted, the preview shows us the first encounter between Kenshin and Kaoru.

This encounter is preceded by scenes of Kenshin wielding his sword and effortlessly taking down the Shinsengumi, the realistic troop in service of the shogunate at the end of the Tokugawa era. Remember that Kenshin was the assassin in service of the newly formed Meiji government and under its orders, he had to eliminate certain political and military targets of the time.

Many expect this new series to receive the "FMA: Brotherhood" treatment, meaning that only what is seen in the manga will be adapted and not the filler like in the previous version with some episodes focused on Yahiko or the three episodes where they meet the pirate Shura. Either way, it will be interesting to see Kenshin animated again and with the promise of finally seeing his encounter with Enishi and other manga enemies.
