Agustín Lozano announced, due to the 100 years of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF), that Peruvian football will have many changes. One of these will be the implementation of VAR in the Liga 1, which raised many doubts. However, one of the most striking is how much it would cost to implement it in Peru?
As a reference, we will use the Uruguayan Primera División Championship, where the cost per match is $4,000, according to the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF).
If we approximate it to the Peruvian tournament, the price of video refereeing in the 345 matches of the Liga 1 would be $1,380,000, which, when converted to the national currency, would be 5,313,000 soles.

Peruvian referees will be trained to use VAR
In an interview with RPP, the president of the Organizing and Competitions Committee of the Federation, Lander Aleman, provided details about the start of the training that Peruvian referees will have regarding the use of VAR.
"Starting in September, training begins for the referees who are learning how to handle VAR," said Aleman. He also recalled the only time this technology was used in Peruvian football: "The VAR in 2019 was something provisional. This is now a planning and seriousness that FIFA demands."
When was VAR used in the Liga 1?
The first and only time VAR was used in the Peruvian tournament was in the definition of the Liga 1 2019, when Alianza Lima and Deportivo Binacional faced each other at the Guillermo Briceño stadium, which ended with the controversial victory of the home team 4-1 in the first leg and a victory for Alianza Lima (2-0) in the second leg.
