Athlete goes for the gold medal in the 100 meters today at 7:23 p.m. at the Videna.
Peru is ready to make its mark in the Youth Swimming World Championship taking place in Lima. This was demonstrated by the national athletes on the first day of competition, and Alexia Sotomayor is the first Peruvian to qualify for the final in the 100-meter backstroke.
"It was a surprise. I am very happy because, in addition to having qualified for the final, I was able to achieve my personal best, after a year and a half," said the Peruvian athlete.
The athlete, with a time of one minute and two seconds, celebrates the great achievement, but knows the challenge that awaits her at the modern Videna Aquatic Center.
"It's going to be quite tough. We all have almost the same time. We all have 1:02 and we'll see what happens in the final," said Sotomayor.
In the competition, which runs until September 4 in San Luis, Peruvian Diego Balbi also made his presence known with a time of 58 seconds and 74 hundredths, reaching the eighth place in the 100-meter backstroke.
