With the right foot, the Peruvian team started their participation in the 2022 Lima Junior Swimming World Championship, which takes place at the VIDENA Aquatic Center from August 30 to September 4 this year, with the presence of 550 swimmers from 80 countries.
Excitement took hold of everyone at the Videna Aquatic Center. Alexia Sotomayor became the first Peruvian athlete to qualify for the final of the 100-meter backstroke.
With a time of 1:02.94, she not only made it among the top eight in the competition, but also set a new national record in the junior B category.
"I feel very excited to have qualified for the final and to have surpassed my personal best after a year and a half. It will be difficult to sleep tonight, we have to process the emotions, and tomorrow we will give it our all. Anything can happen," said the Peruvian swimmer, excitedly, who tomorrow on the second day of competition will go in search of her shining moment.
